It began as the Royal Gdańsk University of Technology (Königliche Technische Hochschule zu Danzig) at the beginning of the 20th century. The ceremonial inauguration of the first academic year took place on October 6, 1904. At the beginning, there were 6 faculties with about 600 students. Designed by Albert Carsten’s team modern complex of university buildings was not only architecturally interesting, but also self-sufficient. The Machine Hall with a characteristic water tower located on the campus was used not only for didactic purposes but also to supply the entire university with water, heat and electricity. The historic building complex of the Gdańsk University of Technology was included in the 10 most beautiful campuses in Europe in the The Times Higher Education ranking published in January 2018.

Gdańsk University of Technology is currently one of the leading universities in Poland. It has 8 faculties, which educate over 14,000 students in over 30 fields of study. GUT is well-ranked in the Shanghai Ranking, QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking. There are four modern research centers at the university (BioTechMed Center, EcoTech Center, Digital Technologies Center and Advanced Materials Center) and two interdisciplinary R&D centers: Offshore Wind Energy Center and Hydrogen Technologies Center. For several years, the Immersive 3D Visualization Lab has been operating, conducting research on virtual and augmented reality. One of the latest investments of GUT is the STOS (Smart and Transdisciplinary knOwledge Services) Competence Center with one of the most modern supercomputers in the world – Kraken. One of the main Internet hubs in Europe (TASK) is also located at the university.

Immersive 3D Visualization Lab

Conference meetings will be held in two historic buildings of the GUT campus.
